Please mark your calendars now and plan to attend our WMU Annual meeting on Thursday, April 30, 2009 at Alum Spring Church. The first session will begin at 5:00 p.m. and the second session will be at 7:00 p.m. We will share from our “lucky pots” or other favorites for dinner between the sessions at 6:00 p.m. and have an opportunity for informal sharing of struggles, successes and solutions with folks from neighboring congregations. The first session will include the business meeting with the election of officers and amendments to the constitution and by-laws and a program by our own Shelia Smith, the WMUV Community Transformation Consultant, about Addressing Poverty in Your Community. Plans for the 7:00 p.m. session are still being finalized.
The Trustees of WMUV have recently approved restructuring the ministries and grouping them into five areas with Ministry Councils: Adult Ministry, Student Ministry, Children’s Ministry, Health & Wellness Ministry and Community Transformation Ministry.
I’ve met recently with Audrey Lohr, Thelma Robson, Barbara Kinsey, and Kathy Davis to work on revisions to our Constitution & By-laws to bring them in line with the state pattern with coordinators for each of these ministries instead of our former pattern of Chairmen for Enlistment/Enlargement, Mission Study/Support. and Mission Action. Those areas would now be within the age group ministry. Our Constitution requires that Amendments have the approval of the WMU Council prior to approval by two-thirds of the members present and voting at the Annual Meeting.
The Council met on March 19 and approved the proposed changes that will have to be approved at the Annual meeting. We are assuming that it will be accepted at that meeting and have instructed the Nominating committee to identify these prospective officers: Director, Associate Director, Secretary, Treasurer, Adult Ministry Coordinator, Youth Ministry Coordinator, Children’s Ministry Coordinator, Health & Wellness Coordinator, Community Transformation Coordinator, Area Representative and Member-at-Large from each of the area groups.
Barbara Kinsey will be serving as the nominating committee chairman. Please call her at 825-9240 if you’d like to nominate someone or volunteer for any of these positions. You may also call me (825-5036) if you have questions about the changes or the job description of the various coordinators or if you’d like to get a copy of the proposed constitution prior to the meeting.
